Extra Æcclesiam is the first full album of Belgian band Spectral Damnation, recorded in April 2022 at Blackout Studio (Brussels) and published by the belgian metal label Necktwister in February 2023.
Extra Æcclesiam includes 9 tracks (+ intro) of aggressive black metal. From the very beginning, the blasts show the flag and agitate it for more than 45 minutes. Guitar playing is incisive and major riffs densify each track. Breathing moments are very rare and you must stay focused so you don’t miss anything of what the album delivers. The crushing sound wall has glimpses of melody, groovy bass playing, solos and orchestrations that send the album to other spheres. Vocals are authoritarian and carefully placed. Tortured high-pitched black metal vocals, lyrical parochial soaring and ostentatious refrains crown the work.
Extra Æcclesiam means “Out of the Church”. The album accuses the enslaving christian order over the world. The album brings the holy writings to light, tools of power of mankind, and the perversion of self-proclaimed spiritual authorities since the origins of Church.
The tracks tackle christian eschatology and the destruction of the world at Judgment Day, the climax of faith (« Sulfur Dawn », « The Grand Annunciator »);
Lucifer – Man and son of God (« Heylel Ben Shahar ») ; Mercyless authority of father God who punishes the doubts of men about their faith with raining seraphim – burning serpents (« Serpent On A Cross »);
Praising a father God, protector of the pangs of men (« Out Of Control ») ;
The cadaveric council of Rome in 897 (« Synodus Horrenda ») ;
The cupid commerce of holy relics (« Relics Ostension Ritual ») and veneration of bodies incorruptibility of saints (« Opaque Funeral ») ;
The schism of the Catholic Church provoked by Antipope Novatian and his refusal to forgive apostates (« Extra Æcclesiam »).
